4e4859b34aThe inverted canary added in #10097 watched for actions/setup-python gaining Python 3.12 support on the ubuntu-26.04 image. It went red on 2026-08-15 and 2026-08-16: the "Try to set up Python 3.12" step now succeeds, which was the whole point of the probe. Its job is done, so remove it. Older Pythons are therefore no longer categorically unavailable on ubuntu-26.04, so the matrix can gain multi-version coverage there once we move to those runners.
